I've been meaning to get Tink insured ever since I've had my own reasonable income, but never got round to it

and her latest escapade has given me a kick up the bum.

I'm clueless about the whole thing really, none of the dogs in my family circle have ever been insured

so I just have some random questions. (Yes I will talk these over with the companies, but you guys are probably less hassle

)

First off, who would you recommend? I'm going to go out on a limb and say NOT E&L.

Who do you use? Are they any good?
I don't want a massive premium as *touch wood* Tink has never had anything wrong with her bar the odd eye infection or bite.

However, she is getting older so want to be on the safe side.
At 8 would she be classed as "old" and be subject to higher premiums/more exclusions?

Also, our time is split between England and NI, is this likely to cause any problems? I can't imagine anyone would class NI as being "abroad" but you never know.

Sorry for all the Qs

any advice would be much appreciated.

Put some money away every month and that way no one can put your premiums up!!!

I would say she might be tricky to ensure in terms of your time split and her age.

I will never be able to insure B but thanks to saving up we have managed to cover some of his humungous bills so far (touch wood he doesn't find any more mystery ailments...)

I did consider that, I'd have to have the money under lock and key so I don't get tempted though.

Although if she then remains healthy I'll have a nice little lump sum rather than having "wasted" it as such.

*toddles off to look at how much she should put away*

Do you mind me asking how much you pay?

Just tried to look up some companies to see if I could get an idea and bloomin internet has packed in and is only letting me on HHO

Sounds like putting some away each month may be the best option.

Errr, I 'think' it's about £11 pounds a month, for their Platinum cover and £60 excess. I'm not sure because a) they altered it to make it cheaper for us! and b) my Mummy pays for it

(It was my christmas present from last year)

Can I just say, I thought about putting money away each month but luckily thought better of it and got the insurance instead.
My eldery boxer snapped his cruicate ligment and his surgery cost £3000, I would never have saved that up.
So just take 'The Henmeister' situation as an example, (I hope that's ok!) £11 per month = £132 per year, that isn't a lot considering the cost of one vet visit, against the £7000 per year, per condition for the rest of the dogs life from argos.
It's a no brainer really!

Also I'm with Argos for my Bullmastiff puppy and it's £373 per year....Arghhhhh! It was the cheapest lifelong insurance I could find for my bully

Tesco have given me no problems, £12 a month and no issues with the rather large vet bill the self-destructing spangle landed me with in spring with his eating habits

I do await the renewal quote with great interest, mind you....

My only issue with saving up is that Henry would be sure to do something daft before I could put a decent amount of cash away!
