Scottish Equestrian, i've been with them for years, never had a problem to be fair even with claims. Got my renewal in and have had no claims on this horse under any policy so was surprised when it came in at £450.

I've just gone on their website put in all the details exactly of my policy and its given me a quote of £330

Has this happened to anyone else.

Will phone them in the morning, otherwise i'm clearing off to KBIS, their choice :)

Hasn't happened to me, but I'd be interested to hear what they say when you speak to them - I'm with them as well :)

Hope you get a better quote, £450 is pretty steep!

You'll often find that you receive a larger discount as a new customer, which is why I suspect there is the pricing difference. If you call them, most insurance companies will match the online price as long as the cover is identical. If they decline to do this I'd be tempted to not renew at there renewal price and then take out the online quote :)

This really bugs me with insurance companies and it doesn't just happen with horses. My home insurance renewal had doubled from the previous year so I went elsewhere.when they asked me why I was leaving I told them my renewal price and they said they would match it but i moved anyway as the new comany gave me a better policy. In my opinion the renewal price should be their best price and if it isn't I'd vote with my feet.

Same happened with our multi car policy last year - hubby called them up and got £600 knocked off! Def worth ringing - it's not fair that long standing customers are footing the bill to allow insurance companies to attract new customers!

I get this all the time with direct line - they just say fine we will cancel your renewal and you can take the new quote on line (I dont think they can match their own on line price!). Personally I think they try it on with automatic renewals hoping people wont check that they can actually get it cheaper elsewhere - including the companies own website!

Not with horse insurance but happend with my car insurance - it was nearly £100 more expensive for the renewal than the online quote, I rang them up, gave them the reference number and they changed the quote to match the lower of the two.

May be worth a try.

My dog insurance has gone up, I rang them and they told me they could not put it down but it's ok to re do on the Internet as its treated like a new customer. I was advices to over lap the dates so I was cover.

Quick update :

They said its cheaper online quote as it's a new customer incentive ! - I aired my disgrace but was simply told to cancel the policy and take the new one out online at the cheaper price.

Note to All : Don't just renenw, check first ;)
