I thought I would share this with you.

I have been insured with the same company since 1995. We have a lot of horses and have made two claims in that time.

We lost a mare to colic in June. This is the saga.

1. Autopsy - done

2. Full medical history - done she was treated for lameness a year ago- first vet bill in 10 years.

3. Vaccination record - sent

4. She was a brood mare and medical history ommitted the fact she had been swabbed!!! Done(not medical treatment as far as I know)

5. They have not received a claim form - sent today for the fourth time.

6. Reply have we sent a full copy of passport??

When a vaccination record was requested I pointed out that that the page in the passport does not contain the mare's name - so why did they not request the passport then? They also have on record the fact that this mare is both branded and micro-chipped.

They claim to settle claims in 5 days!!

Every time we send in new paperwork we are asked for something new. Insurance renewal due in September. I think we will just save ourselves the cost of the premium.

Sorry about your mare, and you certainly don't need this bother on top of losing her.

I must admit that I've heard of so many problems with various insurers that I've gone down the route of not insuring for vet bills (I do have third party liability). I put some money aside into a savings account instead. I've also got a credit card with a big limit on it for anything major.
