Does anyone have this or could you give me any information? I have recently started freelance grooming and a few people want me to ride their horses for them. I currently have insurance to look after animals which includes public liability but doesn't currently cover me for riding (and I'm not sure if the company will do this as it is aimed at all animals so not specifically horsey). I will ring them tomorrow and ask but I don't think they will so I wondered if anyone could advise me on this and what cover would I need? Would it just be public liabilty in relation to riding? Does anyone has this? I have always worked for an employer before so I assume their insurance would have covered me should anything have happened (which fortunately it never did). So just seeking advice really from those who ride professionally, I would love to take on lots of horses to ride but want to make sure I am doing it properly in terms of insurance etc.

Thankyou

You will need to look at rider only / freelance instructor type cover seeing as you will be getting paid for riding. Most of the equine insurers offer this cover. Off the top of my head i think KBIS, SEIB and Petplan provide this cover.

you need a broad freelance policy which covers you to ride/school/exercise other peoples horses. it would need to be a commercial policy as you are doing this for financial gain. you need public liabilty, 3rd party liability, and 3c liability (care, custody and control). your current policy gives you public liability (and i assume 3c liability). i have a good broad policy through shearwater. phone them up tell them what you do and ask for a quote. any cover you have through BHS/be/bd/bs would only cover you on youor own horses or horses you ride purely for the fun of it. the minute money changes hands (ie financial gain) they are null and void. and owners own policies do not cover this when they have paid you.

I Have rider insurance with petplan, its really good and covers me for just about anything riding wise, I got it as back and bring on a lot of youngsters and would be financially crippled if I came off badly and was out of action for a while.
