Im NOT selling this horse. I want to know how much I should value him at for insuring:

16hh Lusitano x TB 9yo. BSJA over £600 actual (about £530 not), jumping Foxhunter. Placed many times BE Novice level. 1 BE point.

I have no idea?!!

I would discuss this with your insurance company. If you over insure you might not get much more than what you paid for him in the event of a claim... in the mean time you will have paid out whopping premiums.

Start some research and build a case. Get mags like Horse Trader, and search the net for horss of a similar age and experience, similar winnings. Cut out/print out the adds and send them to the insurance company as proof of value. If you are insuring a valuable animal you might also have to get the vet to declare the horse fit. You have to prove the value of your horse if it has changed from the purchace price.

Well, its definately changed from what I bought him for! How do I prove his value has changed, surely his BSJA and BE record are the proof? That's the thing - I just have no idea WHAT he's worth because looking at magazines, the price varies considerably! Its so difficult. Ive tried asking one person from an insurance company before as to how I value my horse, she just said its whatever I think Id have to spend to replace him - but again, it varies hugely!

Christmas_Dervy - Crap, that much? Insurance will be massive for THAT amount! I did an online quote for £8k (death & loss of use which is all I want) and its £850. Cant imagine what it costs for a £20k horse
