any recommendations on insurance that covers tooth removal? My mare may need a tooth removed in the future if it doesn't hold up. she had a broken tooth a few months back but half is still in there and causing her no issues at the moment, vet said it would be a referral job if it did need to come out. I'm guessing that could get pretty spendy so looking at insurance. also wondering if it would be covered if its already pre-existing?

Mine isn't covered for dental on his insurance and last spring an abscess under a perfectly healthy molar cost me just under £2000 to sort out. That included 3 vet visits, sedations, many many X-rays, AB’s, in house tooth extraction and all of his after care.

If yours isn’t covered on insurance I would get it seen to sooner rather than later before it becomes an issue.

thanks, i didnt think it would be covered with it being pre existing. Vet is happy with it at the moment and just keeping a close eye on it. i knew it could cost a fair amount but its good to have an idea. thank you!

Agree, as a pre existing condition it won’t be covered by a new policy. Which tooth is it?

My ambulatory vet dentist does at least some extractions at the yard. His costs were a lot less than I had feared.

I’d crack on and get it extracted rather than wait for a nasty infection and flare up. Horses hide dental pain very well, but they can feel it all right.
