I just had my insurance quote for the next year through. I am glad I was sitting down when I opened it, over £600 for a 19yr old retired gelding.
I phoned the insurance company and asked if that was the best they could do. They halved the cost! I did opt to keep illness cover or it would have dropped to £100.
It's worth phoning and having a chat when you get your next quote and not accepting the one that lands on the mat. I've done this before with car insurance too.
