Insurance

Been with petplan for 10 years. Paid out no trouble the one time I made a claim for her tendon problem. Although they have excluded both front forelimbs now for tendon/ligament problems think that's normal for insurance companies. Otherwise most people I know are with NFU :).

I have had my Dog & horse with Petplan for 2 years they have paid out 2 claims for my dog and one for my horse no problem.

Also with the horse insurance if you claim for something e.g colic it is excluded for 12 months and if after that time your horse has not had it again the exclusion is removed ( that's my policy anyway )

I use AmTrust and they have been brilliant. They are run by horsey people and the girls on the other end of the phone are helpful and sympathetic.

NFU are absolute rubbish now. They delayed and delayed on paying a claim that my friend had on her pony. Then, they delayed and delayed on paying the heartbreaking claim for her dear cob being put to sleep (heartbreaking for both of us because I gave him to her, we were both there at the end). Finally they told her, after much chasing, that they didn't have a claim. It's eventually being sorted out now.
Another friend rang them about the hike in price of premiums and was told one reason for it was because they were losing business. Not surprising really is it? A quick search on this forum would tell them why, there have been a couple of threads.
KBIS have been recommended to me, but I think all the companies have put their prices up dramatically recently. I wonder what the justification is for that? Their tea bags have increased in price? Cost of petrol maybe?

I've been wondering about the same thing. We're with NFU for most things on the farm and have a very good relationship with our local branch but my dogs are with pet plan and have been for nearly 12 years and they've been amazing. One dog has a rolling claim for a long term condition which they are paying out on averaging £1200 per year for the last three years and totaling about £9.5k for various treatments over the years.

I just wasn't sure if I'd be better off with an equine specialist insurance company or not.
