But as i am planning on competing for my school and things they require our horses to be insured and things. But i don't know which company is best etc.

Now i know very little about it..just doing some fishing for companies and will leave the rest to my mum..

So who would you guys reccomend....
just ask if you need to know more

I also use NFU. Luckily I haven't ever had to claim for a horse but I'm in the process of putting through a riding accident claim and they have been marvellous so far.

NFU are very reasonable. Have had very good service from wetherbys in the past too. Have one horse insured with SEIB but need to change as they are expensive relative to NFU, just havent got round to it!

NFU are great but you now have to insure something else as well as your horse to get horse insurance.
SEIB are ok, however they dont like talking to your vet which can make for long phone calls between you and vet and you and SEIB.

Petplan are really good, ive been with them for 10yrs now. However they wont talk to your vet unless your vet has completed a 1/2 training with them on the new FSA rules.

DO NOT USE E&L who are unfortunately always putting leaflets in H&H. They are impossible to speak to (as a vet or as a Customer), they try to refuse to pay out, and it takes them about 6 months to pay per claim. They are the cheapest for a reason.

So really ask your vet who they find easiest to deal with on claims. I used to work for a vet and do all the insurance claims so this is purely how i have found the companies to be.

I've just (past couple of days) taken out insurance with NFU - horses only. I have no policies for anything else with them. I was with E&L but found that it's cheaper to insure two horses with NFU than one with E&L! I had been going to change anyway so was delighted to find it was cheaper.

I can not believe that E&L are still in business, they had a shocking reputation 20yrs ago with everyone including vets. Mine are with Equestrian Direct Insurance Services Limited. Tel: 01494 833 200, have been & would in the future use NFU as well.

ours are with petplan and we have never had a problem claiming, we have claimed LOU for one and the other had surgery on her hock.
E&L are the worst out there, never ever even contemplate using them.
