Who do you use for insurance - I wanted to use NFU but they have come in very expensive for two dogs. Petplan is looking the best option at the moment!
I have both my dogs insured with petplan and have found them good value for money esp as one of my dogs is a boxer (in other words a walking vet bill) and I have made quite a few claims. The good thing about petplan is that they don's stop paying out for a condition after a yr!
Malic is insured with direct Line and would recommend them totally!!! We have three claims ongoing at the moment.... ( cardiomyopathy, bladder problem and brain tumour
) He is insured upto £6000 per claim and there is no time limit on them. They have not queired (sp?) any conditions and the money is paid out almost immediatley. Having claimed over £6000 already from them it has been such a weight off our minds that we dont even have to worry about the money. It just means we can concentrate worrying about Mal rather than how we are going to pay for it. We also dont have to worry about the money running out as unfortunatley the money is going to last longer than Malic
Its petplan all the way for me! I work in a vet practice and they are great for paying up without question and are one of the best! I will def advise you to go for a 'lifetime' cover though. Many pet insurers will have a anual cover and if you were to claim for something, say an eye problem, when the time comes for renewal, the company would exclude (probably) both eyes. A company such as petplan (not sure bout nfu?) will cover the condition for the rest of the dogs life. This is very good if your dog was to get diabetes (insulin is very expensive!) or kidney disease for example, as the insurqnce will pay out for the rest of the dog's life.
My dogs insured with petplan and so are my mum and dads dogs.
We had to claim with one of my parents old dogs as he had major heart and lung problems and they were really good and paid out really quickly for several major ops he had. And like others said they don't exclude the condition after 12months, which was beneficial to us as this dogs problems were ongoing for a few years.
Petplan! Boo's, my rottie, cruciate ligament went on his right hind leg and they paid out and now his left one has gone less than three months after the first and they are processing that claim too. Some aren't worth the money you pay into them, so you need to do your research and ask your vet's opinion too. I would highly recommend Petplan as just one of Boo's legs has cost nearly£2,500 to fix!
