Equine Science
MSc/Dip/Cert/Short courses by online distance learning
This online Equine Science programme through the University of Edinburghs Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies is the first and only to be mounted within an international centre of veterinary excellence. The R(D)SVS recognises that not everyone is in a position to undertake a full-time residential MSc programme and consequently this distance learning programme has been developed for high calibre candidates interested in flexible career enhancing education.
Online and part-time over a period of 3 to 6 years, the programme is ideal for people who wish to gain a world-class award while maintaining busy professional and personal commitments. We also offer short Postgraduate Professional Development (PPD) courses, taught online over a 10-week period. The programme is delivered by recognised experts in the various subject areas and will draw upon the extensive staff expertise at the University of Edinburgh, and at other institutions internationally. Consequently, you will become part of an online community that will bring together students and tutors from all over the world.
The taught programme will explore various aspects of equine science and consists of 6 of the following 7 courses (students can choose which 6 courses to take) plus the dissertation course.
- Research Methods in Equine Science
- Equine Digestion & Nutrition
- Equine Behaviour & Welfare
- Equine Orthopaedics

- enhanced ability to communicate scientific results and information in research and other forms of debate
- sufficient understanding of equine science to undertake independent research or a PhD research programme in this field
