Interesting article re Border Collies

Fascinating article - my first Collie came from working stock, was very nervous with new people, naturally very active and would run all day and still want more! A lot of what I read was very applicable to her.

My present Collie has come more from agility/show lines and is much calmer, loves all people, adapts to new situation readily, but she does have an overwhelming desire to react to movement ( our ponies rolling in the field HAVE to be jumped on! ) and she is incredibly sensitive to sound, being terrified of gun fire, fireworks and thunderstorms, she also does not like strange dogs approaching her.

Thanks for sharing the article - very interesting. :)

I have six BC's and have had previous ones and to watch some of them work sheep -which is what they are originally bred for- is nothing more than magnificient, and the scottish/hill working dogs are even better than that.

Thanks Goya - very interesting.

I think I have been really lucky with Rosie (so far!), she is working bred but seems to have completely adapted to our way of life, she is never hyper, she loves people and will play with strange dogs when out but not any dogs that come to our home. She really has been no trouble at all - but we do live in a very quiet area and have a daily routine.

She is incredibly sensitive to my moods/emotions and is very expressive herself. She is such a happy, loving little thing :)

I am really looking forward to trying agility with her next year (except the bit where I will have to get into running again! )

I found it very interesting just having got a BC. I've only had him a month but can see how he wants to please but is also slightly unsure (if that is the right diagnosis) in "crowd" situations. He has show lines and working lines in his pedigree.

What a fantastic article! Must send to OH as he's rather prone to being over-excitable and hyping up dogs

Agree that there should be something like that for every breed (or even type) of dog.
