I managed to make a right fool of myself today while chatting to some rather nice guys

I was trying to explain the rider-horse relationship so I said its quite like the mother and child relationship - cue them thinking I'm completely cuckoo!

For me, that's honestly how it is and I know many horsey people who would agree. But to non-horsey people we sound bonkers and not quite right in the head

Have I got it wrong? The look on their faces was so funny!

Well they were probably hoping it was more of a sexual thing. The beast between our legs and all that twaddle. You have prob just ruined it all in their minds

Lucy means the world to me and is like my baby. All my non horsey friends don't understand this even my oh who is non horsey can't understand (but is getting used to the idea)
I did feel a little guilty when i broke my hip and my mum said "I want you to come home so i can look after you when you get out of hospital, But you won't leave Lucy will you and our garden isn't big enough for her"
But the guilt only lasted 5 mins

I don't really see Scooby as a baby, but maybe as a loveable, somewhat daft child.

With my dog Leah, I see her more like a friend or even a sister, because I was only just nine when we got her so we more or less grew up together.

I'm sure I'd sound VERY strange telling people I feel like my dog and I are sisters though....

charmaine - no my mum got her first cat a year before she had me, so literally I felt like she was a sister to me (she was a very friendly, almost dog like cat! loved her so much!) and most people didnt get it, but I didnt care!! When she was pts it felt like I had lost my big sister!

with horses I feel more of a parental/mothering sort of role ye.......

with my dog DEFINETLY a mothering role (yes I know its sad but I dont care!

You were talking to the males.

What difference does that make? My male work colleagues completely understand the attachment I have to my horse. The ones who don't get it are the female "breeders" who cannot understand that:
1) I am not distraught that I am unable to have children (I could, but they'd be NFN).
2) I love being around horses and dogs and am repulsed by children.
