As some of you may remember Jerry was constantly getting little sores on the corners of him mouth, no matter how gentle I was or what bit we used. I used to smother the bit edges in vaseline before I rode but it still rubbed. I had loads of advice and ideas from on here and I just thought I would let you know how I solved it..

..I stopped using the vaseline!

Honestly I think it was that that made it worse, his mouth is now completely fine, and I have had to take quite a hold at times and nothing

So just in case there is someone out there getting fed up with this problem and constantly using vaseline to attempt to stop the rubbing...try not using it for a week and see if it works

you could also try hemmeroid cream. Had same problem and rode in a rubber pelham for a while too. Seems to stopped at the moment but havent done any fast work for a while

in my horses case it was the happymouth material that was giving him sores - hes fine with a flexi one. i tried vaseline, bonjela everything

I'm glad you've found the answer to his problem! At some yards, it has been the norm to bathe the mouth with salt water for a few days before the hunters are brought back in to work and that seems to help with soft mouths - and no, it doesn't smart at all, I had to use it after I had stitches having M and it was very soothing!

I was told by my instructor to stop using vaseline because it is petroleum based. I bought some camrosa and it's fab! Use it every time I put the bit in - it will still cut sometimes if he's pulling or being strong but it heals pretty quickly.
