Ok, are you sitting comfortably? This might get a bit long!
There's this bloke I know fairly casually through the Bossy Old Fart. I know he breeds and sells horses and I saw one of his on a DVD and liked it very much indeed.
Anyhoo, I ran into him at the Jockey Club over the weekend and went over to say hello and ask him if he might not know of anyone who would be interested in Antifaz. He does alot of selling to the US and since A has somewhat of a sh:tty reputation here, I thought it might be wise to look abroad. I asked him for his email addy so I could send him the vid I took of him but he couldn't remember it and asked me for my phone number.
He phoned me today to tell me that A's 'helicopter' tail ruled him out somewhat for the US Hunter classes which are judged as much on style as anything else, but what plans did I have for my mare?
Rather taken aback I said I was going to jump her, but had plans to breed from her in the future. He said he had a rather nice stallion and very much wanted to breed him to PF and if I was interested he would give me a horse to jump while she was out of action.
I agreed to meet him to talk about it, but the more I thought about effectively loaning PF out, the less I liked the idea; I'm incredibly anal about her and couldn't put her in someone else's care, just like that. Plus I adore riding and jumping her AND I wasn't at all sure the stallion would be to my liking (Ya'll know I want Habano for her!) Still, I met the man in question, and we talked about all sorts of things; many entirely unconnected with horses (he asked me how come I wasn't married and I replied "Ohhh, just lucky I guess!!") He asked me if I'd liked the auction on Sat and I said it was brilliant. He then told me that the 3 top lots had been by his stallion (I actually got the programme out of my bottomless backpack for him to show me) and sort of went... "Oh. OK"
These are they
This was his proposal; his stallion covers PF and we go halves on the progeny. I get another horse to ride in the meantime. I also get to hang onto PF so I can keep my eagle eye on her. Obviously there are details to iron out; I have to meet Findus (think of all the fun names for foals!!), wed have to formalise co-ownership of little neddy, how we share expenses, etc, etc.
On the plus side; I get to use a stallion I might not EVER be able to afford and get PF out there as a broodmare. I get to keep her and keep an eye on her. I get to play with a new (probably very good) horse.
On the down side there are quite a lot of details to iron out, I dont get to ride PF for at least a year (assuming I ride her during her pregnancy!)
Soooo, Ideas and suggestions gratefully received.
For those of you who are more knowledgeable than me... This is the pedigree of the chap in question.
