Ok, are you sitting comfortably? This might get a bit long!
There's this bloke I know fairly casually through the Bossy Old Fart. I know he breeds and sells horses and I saw one of his on a DVD and liked it very much indeed.
Anyhoo, I ran into him at the Jockey Club over the weekend and went over to say hello and ask him if he might not know of anyone who would be interested in Antifaz. He does alot of selling to the US and since A has somewhat of a sh:tty reputation here, I thought it might be wise to look abroad. I asked him for his email addy so I could send him the vid I took of him but he couldn't remember it and asked me for my phone number.
He phoned me today to tell me that A's 'helicopter' tail ruled him out somewhat for the US Hunter classes which are judged as much on style as anything else, but what plans did I have for my mare?
Rather taken aback I said I was going to jump her, but had plans to breed from her in the future. He said he had a rather nice stallion and very much wanted to breed him to PF and if I was interested he would give me a horse to jump while she was out of action.
I agreed to meet him to talk about it, but the more I thought about effectively loaning PF out, the less I liked the idea; I'm incredibly anal about her and couldn't put her in someone else's care, just like that. Plus I adore riding and jumping her AND I wasn't at all sure the stallion would be to my liking (Ya'll know I want Habano for her!) Still, I met the man in question, and we talked about all sorts of things; many entirely unconnected with horses (he asked me how come I wasn't married and I replied "Ohhh, just lucky I guess!!") He asked me if I'd liked the auction on Sat and I said it was brilliant. He then told me that the 3 top lots had been by his stallion (I actually got the programme out of my bottomless backpack for him to show me) and sort of went... "Oh. OK"

These are they

This was his proposal; his stallion covers PF and we go halves on the progeny. I get another horse to ride in the meantime. I also get to hang onto PF so I can keep my eagle eye on her. Obviously there are details to iron out; I have to meet Findus (think of all the fun names for foals!!), we’d have to formalise co-ownership of little neddy, how we share expenses, etc, etc.
On the plus side; I get to use a stallion I might not EVER be able to afford and get PF ‘out there’ as a broodmare. I get to keep her and keep an eye on her. I get to play with a new (probably very good) horse.
On the down side… there are quite a lot of details to iron out, I don’t get to ride PF for at least a year (assuming I ride her during her pregnancy!)
Soooo, Ideas and suggestions gratefully received.
For those of you who are more knowledgeable than me... This is the pedigree of the chap in question.

Well his babies look pretty STUNNING!!!

It all depends if you want her to have a baby yet really, which is totally your decision - don't feel pressured into it!!

It does sound like a fab opportunity though, just make sure you do your research before making any decisions.

Good luck!! He must really like the look of PF!!!

How well do you know and trust the guy?

Mmmm. I dont know, feel somewhat iffy for you!! I would be apprehensive myself!.

Ummm. Really cant help with this one, just think that there is so much that could go wrong with this kind of agreement!

Anyway, stallion has fantastic bloodlines, but there are many many others with these sort of lines. If you really wanted to have a foal out of PF why not use a stallion that you could afford and do the whole thing all by yourself, there are lots of younger not yet proven but 'talented' stallions about that you could use that would (hopefully be) cheaper while they are young- just before they hit the international scene and get expensive!)

Very, very flattering for PF though, I'd be very chuffed with the offer!

I don't know him very well and you're quite right there's far too much that can go wrong. However, have spoken to uncle who knows him and says he's a serious bloke and it's a really good offer (especially the getting another horse to ride bit!)
HOWEVER, recent development is that Uncle ALSO adores PF as a broodmare (he rode her at the weekend and says she's remarkably agile and powerful for her size) and has offered Habano to me for FREE. I get to keep the foal and he'll even register it for me

. I ADORE Habano and Uncle says he'd be perfect for PF as he's technically very, very good (jumping) but lacks the power and agility that PF has.
Habano is this chap:

Both are lovely, I`d be inclined to go with your uncle as you get to keep the foal. Although they say you should never mix business (does uncle want to do a test run with pf as a broodmare first?.)

Nope, no test run required. He's a very, very, very generous and honest bloke. I know he wouldn't go back on his word. Now I've got to get to work on the Vet Uncle that does embryo transplants....

I wonder if he wants some paintings...

Well! PF is a lucky girl.

What offers indeed. Personally, I think I'd keep it in the family and go with Habano - this time, that way keeping doors open for future assignations.

Anyhow.......put Papa Frita (Charlie Big Potato) with Findus and you'll get Fish 'n'Chips.

Obviously good offers are like buses, and two come along at once!

I believe you have decided which to take up (although the other chap's offer did seem a good one, if he was honest, as you could have made quite a lot of money, had a 'different' horse to ride, and still kept PF). However, your heart is with the Handsome Habano, and I am looking forward to lots of lovely foalie pictures in due course. But you won't have a horse to ride

Well Findus has awesome linage and I would use him on Porridge!

You love Habano (so do I)

Do you have the facilities for mare and foal where you are now, and access to a decent vet for scanning and poss complications? I presume the stallion guy does, but do you?

I would want to see what what I am being given to ride - you have, no doubt, gained rep of turning naughty horses around because of Antifaz - you could be given something tricky he wants to be worked, so he would be on a total win-win thing.

TBH PF I think only you can answer this one!

I would go with what your heart/gut feeling says and I think that you know that it is going with Habano!! At least everything to do with PF and the foal will be yours, all yours!!

And am sure that you will find a decent horse to ride somewhere!!

Oh and Thatch bloodlines are fab in dressage/SJ !! I know two Prince Thatch's and they reallly are fantastic horses both superb at everything. One of them in particular is exceptional, just pops 1.60m parralels like nothing and also has amazing movement!
