The University of Edinburgh has completed a
project analysing environmental and genetic influences on behaviour of German Shepherd dogs

Results were published recently in the journal Heredity (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41437-019-0275-2).

Also, a ‘Behind the paper’ blog entry which can be accessed here https://go.nature.com/2NAFshr

and a podcast discussing the paper, which can be found here:

Sorry if format is weird, copying and pasting from phone.

That's really interesting! My older boy loves strangers and always wants to be friends with people. My younger one has zero interest but adores me and my husband. He is ignorant to the point of rudeness with everyone else.

My younger boy is very similar in character to our first shep, who was foot perfect as a clever, sociable pet with enough drive to play with toys and fetch a ball. Both were bred from recent German imports, I'll have to see if there is any crossover in the pedigree.
