Has anyone else experienced this condition in a h/w young horse? My rising 4yrs youngster tends to hitch her near hind and swing the leg out wide occassionally but only does this in walk. She's perfectly straight in trot and is also straight in walk when longreining and being made to use herself. I'm about to send her for backing and I'm obviously a little concerned as to whether ridden work should commence just yet. My vet has seen her and her initial thought was it was a mild case of IUFP and suggested getting her fittened/muscled up. My youngster doesn't actually lock up the joint and doesn't seem to be in any pain. There's no heat or swelling in the joint.
Has anyone had success with putting their youngster into work and what symptoms did your youngster display? I could go down the lameness workup route as she is insured but I don't want to get any exclusions on my policy if it's only a case of building up her muscle strength. She is currently living out 24/7 and our land is quite hilly.
