I am looking at some 3.5t horseboxes and have seen one i really like.

However it only has an internal height of 6ft.

Would this be okay to travel my 15.1 and 14.2 in?

Thanks

:eek::eek: 6ft!
Sorry but I wouldnt consider it, if only for resale purposes. Im sure it would be ok for small ponies but not sure about your two. My 16.2hh ears touched the roof of a IW505 with 7'1 height so your 15.1 is only 5 inches smaller.

I would be wary - I have 7ft headroom in mine and my 16.1hhs travel happily, however I always put a poll guard on and I wouldn't really want to travel anything much bigger in it...

just queries it with seller and turns out i got wrong end of the stick and internal height is actually 7ft.

Is 7ft sufficient for a 15.1hh?

7ft 5 is fine for my 16.2, who will be about 5 inches taller than your 15.1 (she does have a long neck & likes to impersonate a giraffe too). I would have thought you will be OK with that headroom ;)

I would imagne that the box has sufficient height to take your 15h1" however you mention carrying both your horses? Be very careful, the weight of the two horses, plus fuel, tack, rugs, driver & passenger may well take you over the payload. Before you part with any money check up with theseller to ascertain the ulw of the lorry, ideally see a weighbridge certificate. There is no point buying a lorry, no matter how much you like it, if it doesn't have the payload you need. Good luck :)

i know the unladen weight of the lorry and it is 2ton so i would have 1.5ton to play with.

I could get both my horses on board, me and a passenger and some tack on board with that amount to play with

Have you had it on a weighbridge to double check? I only ask because when I was lorry shopping there was literally nothing on the market at 3.5 tonnes with a payload more than 1400kg, which is nowhere near enough for my big lass & her best mate. There are all sorts of tricks that people can use you get a weighbridge ticket that isn't accurate - taking out partitions before going to the weighbridge, having next to no diesel in the tank & weighing it without anyone actually sat in the drivers' seat, that sort of thing. I nearly got stung buying a 5.6 tonner that was supposedly OK for two 16.2s but when I got it on the weighbridge it only had 1.2 tonnes of payload :eek: You really can't be too careful with this sort of thing! :eek:

I tend to agree with Spinal Tap.

All the well made 3.5 ton lorries I have looked at have had a pay load of approx 1.1 ton.

I would want to take this lorry to a weighbridge myself before parting with any cash and check out the build quality VERY carefully.

As to your question re headroom 7' would be fine.
