Hi,

I am thinking about transporting my horse to the States next year as I am relocating there. I was going to sell her, but due to some leg problems, I can't see her really enjoying it here with someone else.

Has anyone ever done anything like this....any idea of prices etc etc? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I know it is going to be silly expensive, but I am looking at up to £5000 ish, or will have to just give her away!

Irt link worked for me

IRT quoted me about 4500 quid for the flight, paperwork and quarantine. You will also have to fork out for transport to the airport in the UK and then transport from the quarantine area to wherever you are relocating to in the states.

Oh, and that was for a gelding. Mares cost more because they have to have a longer quarantine time and different paperwork and blood tests.

I decided it was too expensive for me and found my boy a nice loan home.

IRT took my friends horsey to Seattle I believe, were very good and fab comms all way through various flight changes and journeys....little mare still in UK as too expensive to fly...

I know the people in the offices at both BBA and IRT. I've run both IRT and BBA Quarantines - one bound for Oz, the other Hong Kong. I enquired about the cost of getting a mare to the States earlier this year and if my memory serves me correctly, IRT was the more affordable option. It's not nec. quarantine for travel to the US, more isolation, whilst tests are carried out - esp. on mares!

There is a gentleman who transported Mcfly for me from Leominster sales that does transport abroad and to the States as well. Will try and dig out his number tomorrow.
He is a genuine guy, does racehorse transportation too including for Sheikh Mohammed.
The transporter he used was lovely as I travelled in the cab with him all the way home from the sales. He has a small fleet of them and drivers and also helps out at the sales at Leominster just in case anyone knows his name before I find it out.
I don't know how much he will charge you would have to find out but I know he transported a very valuable young racehorse from the US for a client.
He is registered and above board and wouldn't recommend him if he wasn't. Just can't remember his name off the top of my head.

I shipped one of mine to the States in 2004. I used Peden Bloodstock and they were fantastic. I chose door-to-door service, of that I am VERY glad, as my mare was delayed in NY for an extra 10 days because of Christmas and New Year. Didn't cost me anymore than the original price of £6,600.

I can give you a full break-down of the costs if you are looking to use a cheaper transporter and pay your own way through the quarantine and land shipping if you want.

The cost to transport a horse FROM the States is not comparable - it is always cheaper in $'s.

Lead them into the Atlantic and if they start to swim they want to go, and will swim over. If they don't want to come they will either come back or drown - I let them decide.

Thanks for all the responses. Any numbers/breakdowns would be great if you want to PM me. I really just want to know if it is worth it.....just worried bout a new home due to legs!!!!

I'll dig out my paperwork for you - my invoice was completely itemised so simple for me to pass on each individual part.

I didn't bring one of my horses for exactly the reason you are considering bringing yours - he was blemished on one leg and as such I felt that the strain he would be under due to flying, could compromise him, hence I left him in England with a new owner.
