International velvet and horsey films

Tha Black Stallion
Miracle of the White Stallions (true story about the rescue of the Lipizzaners in WW2
National Velvet
and Champions are probably by favourites.
I remember my first ever trip to the cinema was to see 101 dalmations but the trailer was called 'Ride a wild pony' I must of been about 5 or 6 but never forgot it.

Misty (of Chincoteague) based on a children's horse story ( based on a real life story) of Pony Penning Day on Chincoteague Island (USA) and a young filly and boy and girl. Wild ponies are swam across a channel once a year and the youngstock auctioned off-- ponies are said to be descendants of survivors of a Spanish shipwreck.

My very non-horsey parents actually took us on holiday to Chincoteague a few times for this event.

Great film.

( some horsey films on youtube if you go looking)

You can also rent and in some cases buy from YouTube now, I just stuck in "horse" and filtered it to Films and it's come up with quite a few, they are usually around £3 to rent or £9 to buy, hopefully the link will work;

As for multi region DVD players, I got mine from Richer Sounds, it was £49.99 and a Panasonic. This comes in so handy because I am a huge Jackie Chan fan and I have a lot of his early films which are only available on region 3 DVD's and I also buy a lot of US DVD boxsets which are region 1, UK (Europe) DVD's are region 2.

Not a film but you tube heartland! Loads of episodes- have only watched a couple and know it can be a bit corny being a teen's show but watched a few following post on here about them.

Watched spirit video a while ago but my vcr is now dead so won't be watching it again :(

Anyone else remember chatterhappy ponies tv show from the 90's? I loved that!

Enjoyed seabiscuit, though the final race where war admiral talks to him set me off crying

Warhorse, basically I was crying after 10 minutes and pretty much cried the whole way through while Sat in the cinema... was fortunately with fellow sniveling horsey people but everyone else in the cinema was stoney faced :o

i loved national velvet, i watched over and over, im sure you can buy on amazon. I think international velvet is more tricky to buy. The black stallion also a big favorite and theres another 2 after... love the 2nd. Oh the memories......

...and as well as the movies, what about the photo-stories in magazines back in the day? Dodgy stories about kids in riding schools and ponies, doing things we would cringe at these days! (jumping ponies on really hard ground without a boot or bandage in site, over really dodgy jumps, made out of old chairs and anything they could get their hands on for the pictures!)

Those were the days.....

...but regarding National Velvet and International Velvet, always bugged me that The Pi changed from a chestnut gelding with a white blaze to a dark bay stallion....amazing that.... :p

I loved the photo stories in horse and pony. Anyone else remember chestnut Freddie their mascot?

Saw an excellent thing on fb recently that was entitled something like remember when i was a horsey child.. and it had various things such as freddie from horse and pony, how everyone had a jumper with the velvet horse head etc.

Edit found it- its from equestrian reality.com and is called you rode horses growing up in the 90's when. Can't link as am on phone

Aww yeah, I was a member of Freddies Young Riders Club, was made up when my cousin and I got a picture of us with my aunties horse Paddy printed! Still got it somewhere! :)

Enjoyed watching Secretariat and Seabiscuit. Still haven't watched the whole of Black beauty! And both The horse whisperer and War Horse made me cry (WH came out 2 weeks after my boy was PTS).

Does Spirit count? I loved the soundtrack :)

I once saw one on horse and country about some American boy who didnt fit in at his school. He liked baseball and went into the desert to talk to some old Indian geezer and a magic white horse appeared.

Westerns are full of horses. The new Lone Ranger film was good too
