I am interviewing for a new groom over the next few days, and I have a few questions in mind, but just wondering if you lot had anything that I hadn't thought of asking.

Also, would it be helpful to the applicants if I actually gave them a full job description printed out? What tasks they should expect to do etc?

Hi, sorry not able to help with interview questions but I definitely think a printed job description would be a good idea. It will help both parties have a proper understanding of expectations and would give you something to run through and ask them questions about when interviewing. Good luck, hope you find the right person.

A printed job description would be an excellent idea, I find alot of empolyers over exagerate the good bits ( that you hardly ever do) and gloss over bad bits - I'm not saying you'll do this but it is really annoying! When I went for job as groom I was told I'd be able to compeate well I didn't so much as ride!!! This was a good few years ago and made me rethink job with horses, so was good move

references! and experiences aas well as anhy relavant qualifications. riding capabilities and confidence whilst handling your horses (some people used to ponies and small horses may be daunted by 17hh hunters etc) maybe a practical part to the interview or trial may be a good idea.

i definitely think the printed job description is a great idea!!!
Good luck

definitely some practical tasks - always get them to put boots on one of my youngsters who takes the mick good and proper!! They have to be confident and happy around the horses - I need to advertise for another as mine has now finished uni and moved home (although working on a yard who i was happy t give refs for) speak to referees rather than accept a letter, much quicker and easier to find out if they re reliable and trustworthy!
