introducing a breast girth on a lesson?

Hi, my horse in my knowledge (he is 17, I've had him nearly three years) has not worn a breast girth. I've bought a leather one, it needs to soften, but that's another thread, and the trainer comes out Wednesday. I'm wondering if i could introduce him to it then, or could this create issues. He is used to his normal tack, buthasn't been riddenddue to pregnancy etc, so im a but nervous and could do with the strap to hold...wwyd? Advice really needed, hope youre all good
 
It would be the ideal time to use it, the trainer will be there to check the fit and suitability, they usually need a bit of tweaking to get right, you can then have the required safety net:)
