Hello! I just wanted a little advice as google is being a bit useless really! I'm getting a Lab pup in November a bitch, and already have a GSD 11 yo bitch at home, someone told me that you should never have 2 bitches together, (I understand that on the stable yard ;) ) and I had never heard of it before and am now slightly worried! My GSD Chels has a heart of gold, she loves all other dogs, my friend brings her collie X round to the house to play and they have such fun, but Chels is dominant and will let him know when she is tired, she will to go her bed and he isnt allowed anywhere near her or the bed. She isnt aggressive at all, but as I say, is dominant when she wants to be!
I really just wanted your advise on bringing the new pup into Chels's home we know all about making sure Chels gets alone time and seperate extra attention, we just want to make sure that we go along the right path when introducing Lab and Chels.

Thanks so much in advance!
Emma

And all my keys work!

As dobiegirl says we have recently introduced a male pup to our 3 year old GSD, and previously Evie came into the house at 8 weeks when my older bitches were 7 and 11. It is very important imo to give the older dog space, puppies can be annoying little things, poor Evie has Pickle swinging off her tail frequently. Because she has been so good with him I am now happy to let her tell him off, she will have a grumble at him and push him onto his tummy but never does more than that. However I would never leave them together as the size difference means she could hurt him even if she didn't mean to.
When first introducing your pup I would suggest you let them meeet in the garden, with your GSD on lead so you can just control her, hopefully the pup will be wary and submissive of her and she will probably ignore it after the initial excitement. If you are planning on crate training make sure the pup spends time in the crate and your GSD has time with you on her own. Also bear in mind as she is older she might have a few aches and pains so don't let the pup play too boisterously with her.
If you pm Cayla she will let you have her Puppy guide (for a small donaton to adoptadog NE) which will probably be very helpful to you.
