Currently have a gelding and an elderly but sprightly mare together. About to get a third! A 3 year old gelding. Exciting!
Planning to pop the new one in an adjoining paddock to start with. Can I live in hope they will all three live in harmony or are two geldings and a mare not a great combo?
As I said mare is elderly ie. no seasons but is sprightly enough to stand up for herself.
No other horses around.

I have a mare and two geldings. She's the youngest. They all get along fine, she's bottom of the pecking order, but the top horse will keep the middle horse away from her if he thinks he's stepping over the line! I did the paddock next door to each other and then they were all in together after a week as they were all clinging to the fence line together

I also have a mare and two geldings. Originally I had 2 old geldings and bought a 2 yr old mare, she was bottom ranking. I lost an old gelding and got 2 teenage foster mares, but they beat up my young mare and went back. Now have my remaining old gelding, a small 3 yr old cob foster gelding, and my young mare who is now 6. The rankings are now old gelding top, mare second (just), 3 yr old gelding bottom. But apart from the argy bargy with the two (street fighting ninja) teenagers, all has been pretty smooth after a week or so looking over the fence at each other.
