I've just bought a 4 year old gelding who's only been on grass and hay, he's not been broken yet by the previous owner and hasn't done any type of ground work so I was wondering what type of feed I should start him on once I start bringing him into work. As it's coming into winter I don't wan't him to lose weight from the lack of grazing but I am not sure what feed to put him on. If anybody has any advice that would be great :)

Most horses can do well without any hard feed, plenty of hay is all they really require unless they are working hard or poor doers, if you want to introduce something just start with a fibre based feed or a feed balancer to give him the vits/ minerals required, something like fast fibre should be sufficient until he is in proper work when you may find he needs more. It is better to slightly underfeed than to give too much and end up with associated problems.
