I have been looking for a dog forum for a while and only found this by accident when doing some research.

Anyway we've found you now and I though I would post this by way of an introduction. This is Fynn, as you can see he is a Hungarian Vizsla. He is 19 months old but I'll start with some puppy pictures first (who can resist them:)).

A little older- My son was doing an advertisement for the chair and Fynn decided to join in

All that modelling tired him out

Sorry for the slightly risky pose:)

It doesn't take them long to grow up

As with all Vizzy's he has boundless energy and we decided we needed to find an outlet for the energy- I thought about agility but although he is built for it I'm more built for comfort!! We tried flyball but he was more interested in the other dogs than the ball. Someone I knew suggested gundog training, Vizsla's are HPR (hunt, point, retrieve) gundogs and Fynn's dad was from a working line. I don't shoot but apparently you can do the training using dummys. We found a trainer close to where we live, took Fynn over to be assessed and we were accepted on the novice course, Fynn loved it! watching him hunt a field was amazing, he just loved retrieving the dummies, although he hasn't quite got the idea of pointing yet. He passed the novice and intermediate levels with ease.

Doesn't he look proud of himself

That's about up to date- he working on his next gundog level-

So when I ask my questions you will already know Fynn:D

Hello and welcome. You will find a good diversity of breeds on here. I have flat coated retrievers but my daughter would love a vizsla one day. Great pictures. Sadly I haven't perfected the art of posting them!

I agree with the others - he is absolutely gorgeous! (And that's a very talented photographer!) Welcome to the forum :)

Thank you for the warm welcome:) and the nice comments about Fynn.

Sadly the talented photographer isn't me it's my son, he and I can stand side by side and take a picture of the same thing- mine looks like a snap, his looks stunning, I hate him!:D. Which is probably why he gets paid for his pictures and I don't:D

Shady, my previous dog was a Wiemaraner I lost him at 13 and he was lively right up to the end.

I missed one of my favourite pictures of Fynn, the little devil disappeared one day, didn't answer our calls, so we searched and eventually found him. He has scaled the child gate, climbed the stairs, jumped onto our bed and..... - I can see him thinking 'I've had a hard night protecting the family I deserve a lay-in'

He is lovely and about the same age as our Vizzy, Hugo. He is 2 in November and is also a gundog in training. We are total Vizsla converts and are considering a second one ;)

This is Hugo (for some reason I can only get the link to come up rather than the pic!)

I think it probably is a coincidence as Hugo's litter have their own facebook group and I'm pretty sure I know all of them ;)
Hugo was born on Armistice Day so all of the litter have military names. Hugo's KC name is Decoris Sergeant Stubby. His mum is Jopalma Spring About and his sire is Paradox Hunt N for Gunfield.
He has quite good working lines. Is you trainer dedicated HPR trainer?
They really are addictive aren't they? I've always had dogs (Springer, GSP and Lurcher) but just couldn't imagine my life without a Vizsla now!!

Just a coincidence then- however Fynn's sire was Orion of Gunfield so at least their dads knew each other. Interesting his mum Chuklak Fusion has been covered by Paradox and she is due a litter later this month.

Fynn's trainer doesn't specialise in HPRs, but we are training in a small HPR only group, no other Vizzy just a couple of GSPs. When I started gundog training with Fynn I was very much a beginner and didn't realise how much of a difference there was between the gundog groups and how they work and train. The last year or so has been a very steep learning curve for me!

But yes I know what you mean about them being addictive, I am already thinking of putting my name down for a vizzy pup in 2017, Fynn will be 4 then and hopefully well trained, that will give me the opportunity to enjoy the frustrations of training another one

I emailed Gunfield as I wanted to check how long their waiting list is - we are also thinking of a 2017 pup too as we want Hugo to be fully trained by the time we take on dog no. 2 and also don't want to have 2 OAPs at the same time!
We have 1 2 1 training sessions with Hugo, our trainer isn't a dedicated HPR trainer either, she's very much a Springer person and not a massive Vizsla fan to be honest - even Hugo hasn't managed to convert her ;)
Gundog training has been a steep learning curve for us too, my husband shoots and I think he would have preferred a Labrador but I just loved Vizslas too much to let him choose.
Hugo is very enthusiastic about everything - quite often TOO enthusiastic but he is a fab dog and is amazing with our two young girls, he has such a kind temperament and is just always happy.
Good luck with Fynn and keep us posted on his progress :).

Our trainer is a springer man but I've noticed he is getting more HPRs in his novice classes, when we started Fynn and I were the only HPR out of 6 dogs, in his latest class he has 4 out of 7, 2 vizzys, an Italian Spinoza and a GSP, the rest are spaniels. It's not so much of a problem mixing them in the novice class as most of the training is sit/stay and retrieve. Interestingly the assessor I had for Fynns novice and beginner tests likes HPRs. He enjoys their speed and the way they work, he likes Fynn's 'enthusiasm' and his occasional -(what shall I say, erm), individuality :D

I don't know if this will work but here's Fynn's fist go at water retrieving

Nope didn't work- try 2

That's what you call a real doggy paddle:D:D
