I am currently getting back into jumping with my horse. 4 months ago I would only TROT over a 2fter, an now can easily canter up to a 3ft by2ft spread, but I am not sure how to go about re intorducing jumps. I know it sounds really silly, but I am worried about over fencing him or me. We can not do fillers, although if they are a 1st fence they are usually refused.

Are there any good sites that give info about schooling over jumps?

My aim is to be able to jump at least a round of 2ft6 successfully by the end of the year, but certain jumps seem to freak him out (mainly the plainest ones) where as others such as ladders & oxers he will swallow up without even blinking as he seems better as going over than up if u get my drift.

Sorry if I'm a bit vague, just really wanting some advice. I do have an instructor, but need a bit of stuff to carry on with when he is away.

Well done for getting so far

Try some gridwork/related distances and also things like a couple of fences on a related distance with a turn between them. That should help you prepare for jumping a course....

You could start off with just grid work, with a small jump at the end. Then work your way up to bigger and better. Then think about slowly introducing scary jumps. Just start by putting them in the school and school past them. I would then slowly think about jumping them. On your approach concentrate on good rhythm and positive forward movement. It may take several attempts, but keep trying. I have had the same problems, but have managed to work through it. I also found that by having some one on the ground helped. Good luck

Also jump grids and include "scary fences" in the grid, normally if you have then flowing through the grid they wont stop.
Jumps on the diagonallines (MXK, HXF) so you have to ride corner to corner.
If your worried about messing up strides ride one day with poles on the floor in the places and practice turns to and away from them
