I wanted some advice on introducing a pony to a new herd. I know this is quite a common question on here but my dilemma is slightly different. My daughters new and first pony is going in to a field with 4 other geldings who I am told are alll well behaved and most of them getting on a little bit in age.
It isn’t possible to seperate the paddock or keep him in an adjoining paddock, as the adjoining paddock is already occupied by 3 other horses.
I do have the option of introducing him over the fence from the pathway/access road to the paddock but this would mean him being on a lead rope stood/walking along the fence line of his new paddock for a couple of hours or an afternoon at best. I could and would even do this for a couple of afternoons but obviously cannot stand with him outside all day for days on end. I thought it may help as he would at least be able to see/meet his new field mates before joining the group.
The other option is to chuck him in at the deep end and make sure he is supervised for the first day and regualary checked on for the first few days or until he settles.
has anyone else had this issue and any advice would be very helpful.
