We were supposed to be picking new puppy when we are moved to our new house. Now they say they can only keep him until next weekend. So we will be introduced at our current dog to the puppy in her existing house where she has live since we got. Can you please give me some advise on where and how to introduce them?

im no expert but i took my existing dog in the car with me to collect my puppy and put him in a cage next to her so she could get used to his smell etc...when i got home i carried pup into the back garden, put him down and let them say hello. luckily my existing dog took to the pup immediately so ive had no problems....if your new pup has had all vaccinations it would be better to introduce them on neutral territory, as mine hadnt i didnt have that option..., or maybe at the breeders if he hasnt.

We just walk the new pup into the garden and plonk it down, has never been a problem. We don't leave them unsupervised, mainly so the pup cannot persecute the old dog.

I put puppies in the garden then let the existing dog out to "find" the puppy. When I introduced Maya to Tiva her face was a picture as if she was saying ..you bought me a puppy yippee... but then Maya adored puppies. Never leave puppy and older dog alone and make sure older dog has their own space where puppy cannot haste them. Good luck it will be great.

Thats what we do, then cage the pup when we are out to prevent any chewing etc., and to keep it safe from the other dogs whilst its still small.

Im another for garden introductions either at the breeders or in your own garden. No leads (use a collar so you can 'grab' if need be) to reduce any tension ... you not the dog .... and keep everything very casual. No toys, no playing, NO food ... just a light and easy outside introduction should do the trick. Be aware of your behaviour and if you think you are going into melt down then you need to go away from the situation and let someone calm and quiet deal with it :) Good luck.

Fab thanks for all your replies. It's a big help all our dogs so far have been rescues so we have just introduced them there. Will definitely include them there.
