This little cat moved in up at our field maybe a month ago, judging by the poo we found, when he would have been only about 8 weeks old - miles from any places that have cats. Poor little mite. After feeding him (and thinking he was a lot older than he is, from the glimpses we got of him creeping out of the hedge to eat), we finally trapped him. No chip, two microscopic gonads. Apparently he didn't want to be a field cat though - after doing several light-speed laps of the consulting room at the vets and making us wonder whether he was at all socialised/socialisable, he's let us know he wants to live with the people  These pics are 24 hours after his castration. Once he's on the lap, he's very difficult to remove. 🥰 Slightly concerned at how much he wants to sleep but he's had a stressful few days. Anyway, we are back to the vet next week for bloods for FIV etc and a poo sample so hopefully anything untoward will show up.

He must be exhausted! The poor little thing has been living on his wits for at least a month.

I do hope that his tests all show that he is healthy. My parents fed an adult cat for several months, assuming that he had been abandoned by the family of someone who had died/moved into care. Then he was obviously ill, so they caught him and took him to the vet, who gave him a long acting antibiotic, 'in case you can't get near him again'. They put the cat basket on the doorstep, so as not to stress him further and opened it. The cat walked straight out of the cat basket and in through the front door of the house!

I'm hoping that's all it is. I have a heartbreaking trail cam clip of him sitting in the plant saucer we were using to feed him at 3am, waiting for the food to materialise.

That's a lovely story about your parents. Sometimes they just tell us what they want!

My heart hurts when I can't help imagining seeing him sitting in a plant saucer hoping for more food to materialise. Poor little kitten.
How lucky for him that he came across your fields, and that you caught him. And how lovely that he turned out to be so friendly 💕. Fingers crossed 🤞 that all tests results turns out to be okay.

Fingers also crossed for that getting the blood samples for the tests goes smoothly.

I know, when I saw that clip I felt so sad. Thank you for your crossed fingers <3

Poor little chap having to fend for himself at such a young age. It's a miracle he survived. I'm so glad he's come in from the cold now. It's maybe the first time he's felt secure enough to sleep in weeks. Lucky kittie. Keeping everything crossed for the blood results.

PS we have a black kitten that sticks the end of his little pink tongue out when he's happy 😽

He's negative for FIV and FeLV and the rest of the bloodwork is good apart from a few weird details with his neutrophils - vet hopes he's just expended all his resources dealing with a common-or-garden virus. We are continuing to isolate and monitor and hopefully he'll pick up this week. :) Here he is resting on top of his crate back at home. I'm really regretting that ear nick!

So pleased you’ve had good news with the blood tests (apart from his neutrophils which I’ve never heard of).
Looking at him can I detect just the slightest potential of a kitten who will soon be having loads of fun?? 😃

I do hope so, he really deserves it! Yesterday he showed interest in a small peacock feather and the standard ball of tin foil. Tempted to pop to Pets-R-Us for a catnip mouse.
