Hello everyone, just wondering if anyone could offer me any advice on introducing two mares. My sister owned a thoroughbred Mare and I have recently bought a 14.2 bay mare (my first horse). When i got mine we spilt da field into two sections seperated with electric fencing and the two seemed to get on well onto we would try and bring one of them in they went mental like seperation anxiety so we have since seperated them into seperate fields away from each other which seems to have cured the anxiety problem but we are at the stage now that me and my sister want to be able to ride out on our mares together does anyone have any ideas of how to introduce them to this or do we just both mount and pray for the best? They both have been with other horses previously in there old homes but have been living alone now for 2yrs and mine 3 months. Any tips very welcome!!

Horses are not really designed to live totally alone with no contact from other horses.....even being in seperate adjoining paddocks is preferable to not ever seeing another horse. Sounds like having no other company they buddied up rather well and then got very upset at being parted.
Could you not get a 3rd small pony to keep the remaining one company if one goes out/gets taken in?
As for riding out together, there is no reason you cant just get on with it. I ride any of mine with strange company regularly, they cope well enough.
How would horses at show's get on otherwise with all the strange company around!
