I haven't hunted since I lost my boy last year, he slipped golloping across a muddy field and shattered his pastern joint.
He was a fabulous hunter, very mannerly, very safe, if I lost my balance he would come straight back to me.
My new boy is a bit fizzy. Took him on a fair few fun rides over good ground over summer, he was a good boy - a bit strong - but did nothing to worry me too much. He does race a bit though if other horses over take him - which does worry me a little on the hunting field.
I desperately want to get back into hunting, but after losing my old boy in an accident on muddy ground, I think I may have lost my nerve. NECDH are holding an introduction to hunting meet on Saturday which might be perfect for me to get back into it.
So I could do with a few pointers really.
1. What exactly is an introduction to hunting day?
2. How do I get over my nerves?
3. Any tips for a horse that might like to race if others over take him?
4. Do you think a day like this might too busy for newbie horse and a nervous rider?
Thanks
