Hi Debbie welcome to the forum. What's the issue with your gelding, how can we hell you?
Hi,
He had grade 2 ulcers last year which were treated so it could be possible that they are back hence he is on another course of treatment. The problem is he walks lovely and relaxed but just refuses to trot more than 3 strides. His head goes up to the side and he completely disconnects through his back. He's had his saddle done, teeth checked and the back guy out but still not sorted. I had a friend ride him last night just to check it wasnt me causing the problem but he was the same with her. If I try lunging him he moves reasonably on the left rein but is reluctant to work on the right rein. Now planning on getting the vet out as something must be going on even though he looks sound. Any ideas?

I haven't a clue and no point speculating.

All I would say is that there is a different set of muscle groups used in trot than in walk and it might be that one of these is hurting him due to pain which may be coming from either bone or soft tissue, hence why calling the vet is a good idea, much more qualified than anyone on here!

Gastric ulcers can cause right hind lameness, they can step short or have an odd gait. Reluctance to trot on the right rein can be a symptom of ulcers too.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm hedging my bets but haven't a clue. Vet I'm afraid.

Vet due to come out w/c 22 Aug so will see what he says. I have been in the belief that is was another ulcer flare up due to him being worse on the right rein for the reasons you mentioned but as treatment hasn't worked I have no idea now. Just hope he doesn't have kissing spine. Thanks for your help

No problem. I'm just sorry nobody else could help you.
Its a bit of a poor show if I'm honest but it might be because you need to put your question in the Veterinary section of the forum.

Debbie, post your problem in Tack Room or Vet and plenty of people will try to help. Hardly anyone looks in Introductions. Welcome to the forum.

ETA sounds like a hind gut ulcer problem is possible.

Thanks, I also posted it on the 5 and 6 year old training but will now add to the vet thread. Thanks
