Inverted Snobbery (is that the right thing to call it)

Who thinks these things? I've never encountered anyone who thinks warmbloods are all that or that they are better than me and my TB.

Please explain to me Airdale/Seansheep/Reynold exactly how these people affect your life enough to get up your nose?

So what if they're "wasting" money and not having competition success - maybe they just enjoy themselves in the process. Does it annoy you that people can afford to spend so much to enjoy themselves?!

Couldn't agree more.
I have never had my own horse but hopefully am getting to the stage where I can afford one. When I do buy a horse I will buy the horse that is right for me irrespective of breeding etc. At the moment I just want a horse and I don't care if it a scruffy heinz 69 or a "posh" warmblood. If I also want to spend all of my spare money buying stuff for my horse just so I can go out hacking or pootling round little shows then so what? It is nobody else's business what I spend my money on...

To be perfectly honest I don't think anything of the kind. WBs are ten-a-penny. The vast majority of people who buy a WB have not spent a vast fortune on them. Yes some are bought directly from elite European studs and have superb bloodlines and breeding and they are the ones who cost serious money......but most people do NOT have that sort of WB.

The fundamental point of WBs as I see them, is that they are a sensible riding horse that almost anyone can ride competently. Most won't make the big time, most will do nothing more than a handful of small shows but most will give pleasure to their owners for many years.

Regular WBs a status symbol? LOL!! Absolutely not in my book. Trakehners on the other hand - yep!

I actually think it will get to the point where anyone having a good old fashioned IDxTB hunter type will be in the minority - and of course displaying extreme good taste.......

True.

The market is already like that Sienna. Compare the prices for a ID/Connemara X TB versus a WB - no comparison; it's all down to supply and demand and with the market swamped with WBs then it makes sense that WBs are generally less expensive.

my views come from 2+ years at a 'top dressage' stables and believe me I've seen a LOT of what I describe.
If there is good horse welfare and good horse care and good horse riding then I don't give a toss what the horse is or what it looks like or whether it is a pet or a top competition horse. My beef is with those that spend the money on the bling and don't spend the money on the welfare of their horse and the riding of it. Those who can't ride what they own so go out and buy the latest bling 007 gonna work bit/saddle/boot/gadget and then torture said long suffering horse to compensate for their own incompetence. Those who buy the latest bling and won't cough for a horse dentist. Those who have a 40k horsebox and a 1500 quid saddle but don't make sure that the saddle actually fits the horse. Those who when the horse won't perform up to standard beat it, use spurs and treat it appallingly to the point where the horse is sour, kicks, bites and it generally unpleasant to have around(the latter happened to a horse I sold and then luckily bought back on my credit card and thank god I did - it is now happy, doesn't bite or kick and is a cuddly chap).

so personal experience here - which is what this forum is all about. I've been there done that and got the T shirt.
