My horse is tender down the side of one of his front frogs, the farrier looked at it last week and again today, washing twice a day with dettol and then purple spray but I have been reading online and found that some folk have used a mix of the above and was wondering if anyone had any experience they could share with me.

I usually use a solution of hydrogen peroxide 50/50 with water to disinfect,it will fizz for a while, do this for 2 or 3 days,it should stop fizzing by then.Iodine or eucalyptus oil can be used to harden it off,I have not used them together but they are both types of disinfectant so will also help.
I find that purple spray is fine after the hydrogen peroxide treatment has got rid of the worst of it.

Yes, I used Iodine & Eucalyptus oil when my lad had a bruised sole and had a pad on - it helps prevent thrush and I put a mixture of the two on the gamgee pad.
