Hi. I have been looking at getting my horse a therapy rug. I have been looking at the Rambo ionic sheet, the Masta Protechmasta infrared rug and the Premier Equine Infrared rug. Has anyone used any of these and what do you think of them? Also, are any of them any good for horses with big chests? Thanks.

Each and every one is a miraculous example of...

clever marketing.

I used to think the same as Auslander but a friend (who was very sceptical) used one of the human Rambo ionic products that they were given as a present and couldn't believe how good it was and the difference it made to them so I'm a bit more open to it all now and have even bought my oldie one of the rambo ionic fleeces.

It's not going to do any harm (except to your bank balance!!) so it has to be worth a go as far as I'm concerned.

Ah yes, I remember thinking the description of that rug was suspicious. I'm always skeptical of magnetic rugs, let alone reflecting magnetic fields and therapeutFaraday cages.

I have the Rambo Ionic for my boy who is arthritic. I tried to do some research and stay skeptical rather than getting carried away with marketing. I read a scientific article on the potential benefits of IR ceramics on arthritis before I decided to give it a try (not a proven hypothesis, but some interesting findings - https://www.degruyter.com/downloadpdf/j/plm.2012.1.issue-4/plm-2012-0034/plm-2012-0034.pdf)

Personally I feel it has made a difference to him. I put it on (along with PE ionic stable wraps) before I ride, and he seems a lot less stiff - he's certainly very warm underneath too! As an example, he used to be reluctant to lift up his back legs to pick out his feet and would try to just rest his toe on the ground, but he has been holding them up ok recently - I think the wraps/rug have helped, but can't offer any empirical evidence.

I'm not arguing that this isn't a placebo on my part, I'm sure it probably is! But for £60 I would rather give it a try as it doesn't do any harm and might just help make him more comfortable.

As an aside, it's really good for wicking, and fits my big chunk with wide chest nicely.

Yeah FIR heating and therapy is very well documented and understood, and there is plenty of evidence that it works. The negative ion treatment the Rambo ionic rug claims I also think is BS however. Negative ions work, but only in quantities millions of times greater than what a rug can possibly offer.
