My 5yr old has just been diagnosed with bad suspensory tear.Further complications are thin soles on both front feet bruising inflamation described as laminae. We have to treat suspensory first and vet offered irap denerving and shock wave. Before he has treatment we will have gel pads fitted to make him more comfortable in front.
The above explains why i have had problems backing him poor lad.
Does anyone have an experiences of irap,I guess he will have to go into surgery for marrow or is it blood for irap.
I have so many questions and waiting for phone call from vet :(

Have had very good results with PRP and Shock Wave treatment. Have an Arab (Advanced Endurance) that did a bad hind one , worse than front ones. He was off work for about six months then he started work and completed an endurance ride ten months after doing the injury.

Well worth looking into.

My farrier is ringing vet tomorrow to work out plan of action but I had considered they might be helpful for support :)

Its blood for Irap and personally found it to be an absolute load of rubbish (sorry I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear!) I found that the injected fluid just did not disperse so was left with massive lumps of fluid sat on his ligaments and funnily enough, didnt make the slightest bit of difference. I think its worth doing some research as vets seem all too keen to recommend the 'in' thing. I also had some fairly good results from shockwave so might be worth a look?

I have been googling to get as much info as possible.Obviously I want both sides so not offended would rather have honesty.I believe its prp that vet is recommending.Ill keep my options open until I have more feedback
thanks :)

PRP is plasma replacement. 60 mls of the horses blood is withdrawn then put through a filter which leaves the plasma. This plasma is then injected into the lesion. By doing this the body will no reject the fluid and it helps to rebuild the ligament.

Have had great results from it.

Had brilliant results from prp in my 20 yo he had a big tear in his collateral ligament and in the same leg he also had inflammation in his navicular bursa. I now have a sound happy horse, the vet was shocked and really wasn't expecting such a result mainly due to his age.

He's being retired from competing more for him to just enjoy himself hacking and having fun as this is what he deserves rather than the leg :)
