My vet has suggested IRAP therapy to treat soft tissue damage in my horse's coffin joint. He explained the basic principles and that it is very new but just wondered whether anyone has had it done, what the treatment involved and how successful the results were.
I'm sure someone on here has mentioned it before.
Any information gratefully received.

Hiya
My horse has also had this suggested for arthritis of coffin joints in my horse. I won't need to decide for a few weeks - have to have vet out end Sept and we then decide whether we do a second cortisone/HA injection or try IRAP. I'm quite keen on the IRAP idea, but need to find out more about it - I can't actually find anything on the net to say its proven to work! Typing in haste as have to go but pm me and I'll try and help if i can.

Tomorrow I'm (or Ludo is) about to have the 5th of up to 7 IRAP injections. Ludo had an arthoscopy June 2006 as his collatoral ligament had been damaged and his coffin joint was moving in a way it shouldn't. Last December he was sound on the straight but not on the lunge, so IRAP was suggested. It's has cummulative effect so I didn't see much change from 1st to 2nd injection but each subsequent injection (at about 2 month intervals - or when I can remember to call the vet!) has made a massive difference. From last December (1st injection) we've gone from walk/trot only in straight lines all the way to jumping again (although we've only done this twice in the last 2 weeks!). I think it's made a great difference to Lude's although I can't say that it's been quick. But slowly, slowly and all that! The only reason I say up to 7 injections is that that is how many IRAP injections they made out of the blood they took, presumably they coudl take more and make more (although I'd have to say I'd begin to think about whether it was worth it then if things haven't been fixed in 18+ months/7 injections)
