From Dublin you can get to Cavan and Goresbridge sales easy enough. Getting the horse home will only cost you a couple of hundred quid. Prices are low at the moment so there are some bargains to be had, but as with all things, you need to be a bit careful buying from sales. The big sales insist on horses having a vet's cert beforehand, and you can get them revetted on the day for around €40, which is certainly worth it. The alternative would be to go to a reputable dealer in England who imports Irish horses - you may end up paying a bit more but there might be more come-back if things go wrong.

Shipping depends - I shipped for about 300 but I wasn't happy with the service at all!!!!! Big drama so PM me if you like and I will give you the name of the guy I used so you can avoid him!!!

Go to the bigger sales and you should be fine. Goresbridge is always popular. Have a look online as well cos you could line up some some to look at www.irishhorsetrader.com or www.donedeal.ie and it will give you an idea of whats availble through private sales as well.

moocow i pm-ed you... Would you say Ireland is good for getting big heavey cob/cobblets frim because thats what i am looking for a cheap price and dont mind as a sorta project ??

yes, there are ALOT of ones to stear clear off...that includes transporters...If u want I will PM u the name.

He brought a horse over from France for us, Had travelled for 4 days, when we got the call to lift him it was 7pm...when we arrived at 9.30pm he was still on Lorry!...took him of lorry in2 horse box and drove straight to vets, he was in such a mess!...As we backed him off trailler at Vets he collapsed and cudnt get up.

Ended up the silly Bast*rd hadnt waterd any of the horses or stopped to let them out over night (Which is now law apparently)
He was severely dehydrated and we nearly lost him...Poor lad was only 5months old at the time.

Makes me so angry and very paranoid about using transporters unless I know them personally! x
