Irish Cob - saddle advice

Calling all Irish Cob owners - what saddles are your ponios in? My sister has one and is struggling to find a saddle that fits well - the pony is about 14.2 and is four years old.

All advice gratefully received!

My Irish Cob is in a wintec with the widest gullet. He's the only horse I've ever had that hasn't been a problem with saddle fitting. My other "heavy" (not a cob, shire x tb) is also in a wintec but the one that was designed for cobs as he has mahhosive shoulders (or did, he's not in work anymore).
 
My 15 h middleweight Irish cob mare is in an Isabelle Werth wintec saddle on the wide fitting and it fits her great. I hope this helps.
 
i use the wintec wide saddle on my irish cob , it,s a great fit on her. My cob was very fat and had to start on the widest gullet , but she slimmed down to the wide gullet of the gp model which wintec said was fine to do.
 
Through various changes of shape my horse has had many. We had a griffin cob fitted by saddler which was hideous and didnt actually fit, then had an albion legend G.P extra wide which fitted beautifully until a big shape change, then falcon adler VSS which didnt fit properly (to forward cut on her shoulder and tight round the wither) then ideal jessica dressage saddle (probably the best fitting out the lot) and currently a collegiate g.p with changeable gullet. (have also ridden her in a black country dressage saddle)
 
thorowgood cob saddle. this is flatter and wider so meant to fit cobs better and also has the changable gullets so allows for change of shape.

found wintecs and other saddles lift up too much at the back and tip you forward.
 
I have a shire x irish cob and he is in an albion legend at the mo- it is a lovely 2nd hand one from my local saddler!!

I would get a proper saddler out and just try them on what fits 1 may not fit another

For really wide natives, I really like the Native Pony Saddle Company saddles - they are pricey, but worth it.

Otherwise, as suggested, Thorowgoods usually fit better than wintecs, although the Wintec Wide is becoming more popular, I am still not keen on the panels.

Ideals in the H&C tree are also really nice.

The Saddle Company do a cob version tree, but only in a GP model, and I dont like it on really really wide ponies. I fit these so have seem my fair share of roly poly ponies and really anything wider than a xxw or possibly an xxxw depending on the conformation isnt going to fit. These are not the same as the Native Pony Saddle Company saddles - they are a completely different company and are designed specifically for very wide natives.

Best thing is to get a good local saddler with a selection of saddles and see what suits horse and rider best. Sometimes they will have a really decent 2nd hand saddle that has been made to measure on another similar sized horse and that is going to fit better than anything "off the shelf".
