I have a 17.2 Irish draught x sports horse who has just turned 9. I have been doing dressage and showjumping over the last 5 years and now want to try and do some showing with him ridden or in hand. Please can any1 give me any advice on the best classes and shows to go in and what to wear (me and him) as I reall have no clue about all that! Thanks :-)

Without seeing him it is difficult but probably hunter classes and working hunters, there are not really in hand classes for horses of his age.
Find a local RC show that has a range of classes and go in one or two that you are eligible for, possibly Novice hunter/ Open hunter/ RC horse/ Working hunter, ask the judge for their opinion, although it will only be their opinion so not set in stone.
Go to your nearest County show, they start soon and watch the classes with a critical eye and see where your horse would fit in. Its also a good way to pick up tips on turnout and way of going for different classes.

You will need a tweed jacket, navy velvet hat, cream jods, long black boots, spurs, brown leather gloves, a shirt and tie not a stock and a show cane.
The horse needs a plain brown bridle with either snaffle or more correctly a double or pelham although for workers any suitable bit is allowed, within reason.
A well fitting saddle that is ideally brown and not too forward cut, a discrete numnah may be used.

Thanks for that be positive that's a lot of good advice I'll definitely go and watch a county to show to see what it's all about :-) I've got a local show in a few weeks doing working hunter etc so I'll attempt some of the other ridden classes as well. Thanks again :-)
