I am going to be showing my filly hopefully at the ID breed show (once I enter online) but I have never had a horse with a pulled tail, I've always plaited. Does anyone have any pictures on what a finished pulled tail looks like? I pulled my girls a little bit last week, for the first time, to start it off and I don't want to remove too much or in the wrong place etc... but at present it looks like a bog brush. Doesn't help that she has fairly wayward hair with a mind of its own! Any tips on what to do & what not to do? Tried looking for a finished pic on the net but can't seem to find one!

Try googling 'horses pulled tail' and go to 'images' at top of page then you'll get several pictures, some better than others. You can also achieve a neat finish with a 'smart tails' type rake comb, starting from underneath first comb down tail at the sides until the shape you want, leaving the strip down the middle in long hair. What ever you do, do not take the clippers to it!!

I have had horses for 35 years, mainly ID, and shown them. I cannot and never have been able to make a good job of manes or tails, no idea why, just can't.

I get a professional groom in and pay them to do a beautiful job.

Thank you both... I have had the saddler out today again who also breeds draughts and she has given me some tips, shown me how to finish the tail & has also cut it to the right length which was good of her! :D
