If purchasing a horse / pony from Ireland that is already microchipped, can the microchip number be registered in the UK? I'm assuming they use the same microchip reader etc?

Any info much appreciated.
 
I've just bought a horse that as far as i know was chipped in ireland, but has been in england for 4 years. As far as I could tell it didnt make any difference where he was chipped, the scanner at the vetting picked up the chip and the number was recorded on his vetting certificate (and was already on his irish passport). Hope that helps!
 
I bought a horse that was chipped and passported in Ireland. Chip number was in passport and neck, but I was not given any chip paperwork.

Joeanne on here (she's very helpful) gave me a number for a UK microchipping company and I rang them with the chip number and registered it and my details with them.
 
when i bought my horse from ireland his microchip didnt register with the machine over here so he has two microchips :) one registered to me and another registered to someone in irelandddd hmm
 
Thank you for your replies. Much appreciated. If I go over in a couple of weeks the sellar has said he'll microchip the colt for me before I arrive. Although this would be much easier I think I may wait and just have it done here myself instead. It's a wee travellers cob and I'm going to register him with wetherbys - for no other reason than I can and it tickles me pink to see this wee hairy with a wetherbys passport :)

Your cob cannot travel unless chipped and passported first
