Can any Irish persons give me the name(s) of companies microchipping horses in Ireland, trying to find out more about a horse's past and have discovered he was chipped in Ireland. Any help gratefully received. Thanks!
i don't know of specific companies that do it but by all means i'll try help. is it a horse or a pony? ponies must be microchipped to be registered with the sjai. vets most commonly do the microchipping here. has he got papers?
Most microchipping is done by the vet and then the owner just has to register the animal, I know when I got Pride done he was registered with www.fido.ie Not sure if this is any help but maybe you could try and contact them and they may be able to help you!
He's a horse, he's only 4 and he came with no papers. We reckoned he must have been chipped when a baby as he's a big 'gentleman's' horse, but has a problem we felt he had been sold on because of. Will certainly be trying fido.ie and any other help would be very welcome.
Microchipping is carried out by the vets and the microchips are issued by the Irish Horse board to the vet when microchipping foals. With older horses it is common for the microchip to be issued by fido.ie - so I would suggest you contact the Irish Horse Board for further information: web page
If you want the horse registered with the Irish Horse Board it is! Think this was started arround 2000 (but i could be wrong!!)
If you have the chip number and you contact IHB or NIHB I think they can issue you with a duplicate passport!
Good Luck with your search!
