Coronea Eagle (TB who won Irish dressage champs some years ago) out of a Blue Rajah (ID) mare, and one by Royal Canal (TB) out of an Elm Hill (ID) mare.

I'd be interested in info on any of these stallions or on their progeny. I have done a quick google search and my info at the moment is limited to that.

You can see a video of him on the their website http://www.ballinteggartstud.com/showstallion.php?jid=5

Sorry, but that video is how not to promote your stallion. We see him jumping cross country, but all we know from the video is that he will go through water. We then see him doing some rather poor dressage movements, but are told he is a Medium Champion and then in hand he is lame behind? Luckily for him some of his stock looked quite nice.

That's a bit harsh! maybe you have to bear in mind he's 20?

We've got a horse by Jupiter du Thot, who also stands at Ballintaggart. Our horse is the spitting image of Jupiter - just a hand bigger! The stud is not a big, professional set up - Jupiter has apparently not been evented the last 2 seasons due to their lack of funds to run him

They showed a 2 part documentary about the stud a while ago, and we all said that ^^^ then too about their stallions  Mind you, they used to stand Sir Rivie (now deceased :() whose progeny are starting to perform well.

My mare went to Sir Rivie a few years ago (and that is another story!) and when they failed to initially get her in foal they wanted to put her to Coronea Eagle instead  Er, no thanks, the whole point of sending my RID mare to a RID stallion was to breed an ID foal, and tbh I wasn't really keen on CE anyway, sorry OP :o I like Blue Rajah though :)

My hunter mare is by Elm Hill RID. I bought her at the Gorsebridge sales 6 1/2 years ago as an unbroken rising 4 yo. I met the people who bred her and was told Elm Hill is known as a 'Farmers' stallion, which I took to mean that the local irish farmers who all have a mare or two use him. I dont think he has any competetive record. I went to the ID sales a couple of years ago to buy a filly foal by Elm hill but she was way out of my price league. I think one of his progeny won the hunter broodmare class at Dublin this year. I have seen the occasional horse for sale in this country by Elm hill. You could probably look his bloodlines up on the irish ID website somewhere.

Have always had a soft spot for Coronea Eagle, the pictures from Dublin don't do his movement justice. His pedigree is impeccable for eventing between his Prince Rose, Vimy and another favourite in a pedigree - Fair Trial. You also have Foxhunter who was another legend.

His damsire, Bassompierre, was one of the best for producing eventers including Sydney Olympics individual gold medallist, Custom Made while his daughter, Rineen Classic, bred a certain Supreme Rock. Fabulous pedigree.

Elm Hill sired this year's Irish Draught champion mare at Dublin, Elm View (Irish Draft - the hunter mare champion, Leader Star, was by another eventing sire icon, I'm A Star :)). She - Elm View - was a very worthy winner, fabulous example of a real Irish Draught, none of the heavy, clunky type, and what a mover, just skimmed over the ground just like Coronea Eagle in his heyday. She is only a three-year-old (and was also the All Ireland 3yo ID filly champ) so hopefully she will breed mini-versions of her rare self.

Elm Hill was another under-used sire, useful outcross lines as he goes back to Slievenamon although on his dam's side, shares Tara as same maternal ancestor as Clover Hill and also, Sea Crest.

Hilly - thank you so very much for that interesting information. Like you, I like Coronea Eagle and if the temperament of this mare is anything to go by she is a huge credit to him.

I am fascinated by irish breeding and really appreciate the time taken by everyone who has posted no matter what their personal preference is.

No problem, he is a lovely horse and I can tell his progeny a mile off as the Bassompierre blood shows through. But for a long summer spent chasing Equitainers around bus depots could have had a mini-Eagle here 12 years ago - now that would have been a bonus but such is horse-breeding - however, found the stud very professional to deal with then.

Thanks again. This is the Coronea Eagle mare 10 mins after son had first sat on her. Apols for the quality as it was getting dark:

I have always found Cronea Eagle's very compact showy looking types. very nice. The Blue Rajah is a legend in my eyes and was a SUPERB example of what a great ID was back then-fabulous confo. He hasn't too many stallion sons left around however but I would be very partial to him in a pedigree.
Nice mare by the way!
