So, this is really random, but does anyone know of a cob breeder in Ireand whose yard is near a windmill? It would have to be a yard that would have been around about 20 years ago. Completely not any sinister reason - just need to tie some ends together about my lads origins. I know it's a really long shot but .........

Hi, Puzzled, I really don't have any other details. My boy came from Ireland some twenty odd years ago. Could have been a proper breeder or a basic yard - he didn't come directly to me so I don't have this info. But for various reasons I am wondering f there was a windmill nearby, and I would really like to know if this is a possibility. it's a long shot as I say but I just wondered if somebody might happen to reply and say 'of course the famous windmill stud in.........wherever'.

Really hope you may be able to help, Puzzled. Just so you knw, there is really no hidden agenda - our yard had a horse communicator (I know, I know) who got a couple of things right with my horse. But also said that he had been very frightened of a wind mill when he was young. He came from Ireland some four years before I got him and I don't know anything about his babyhood as someone else owned him in between. So this could be my only lead!

There are millions of cobs all over Ireland, mainly bred by the 'traveling comunity' wouldn't a better way of trying to trace your cobs past be by the passport? or by posting a picture????? If you are convinced about the windmill you would be looking at one of the arable counties, not the mountainous sheep areas, or the grassy cattle grazing ones.....

Dorian grey - would there have been wind turbines at that time? And, yes, that's him in the pic. Stormox - I am aware that this is a needle/haystack scenario. He has a passport but obviously for his later life as they were not around when he was young.

Hmm, don't know about the wind turbines being around but if it's the cob in avatar can't help - sorry. Hope you find what you need in any case :)

Thanks doriangrey. Anyone else? Just in case it jogs anyone else's memory, my boy would have been at this 'mystery' yard, complete with a nearby windmill, with his slightly bigger brother called Solomon, where they were broken (prob at quite a young age) and then sent together to the uk. Maybe someone out there is going to have a 'eureka' moment???

As far as I know there is only one actual windmill in Ireland (they are not exactly a big feature here; try Holland), and it's in Co. Kerry. Why would he have been frightened by it? Animal communicators are scraping the barrel, and should get their facts right if they are going to conduct really high class scams.............

There are many windmills or ruins of windmills in Ireland, Cortez (check list on net). If you have ever been next to one that is working you will both hear and see 'horse frighteners'.
I have not included any judgement about this particular animal communicator in my post. However, just consider for a moment - if this person was, as some may be, less than honest, why choose something as random as a windmill? Much better to select, say, a silage clamp or something that more horses and their owners are likely to have encountered if you want to seem successful. In ths persons case I think they themselves believe that their communication is genuine. Although some of the 'information' was not relevant to my horse and I , I would like to think that I am able to keep an open mind in general?

Cortez, I presume you mean Blennerville? Its a windmill alright, but it hasn't worked for well over 40 years, and it has sea in front and a canal one side car parks and shops on the other sides and the theres no where any horses could be near enough to it to be scared by it......

Yup, Blennerville. I have spent over 20 years travelling the length and breadth of Ireland teaching horse skills courses for Teagasc (Ireland's agricultural education body) in studs, farms, equestrian centres in every single county in Ireland, and that is the ONLY windmill I have ever seen, other than the modern type, and they weren't here 20 years ago. There is another restored windmill in Co. Down, but that is nowhere near any horse places.

You can choose to believe horse communicators are legit; I can choose to think they are charlatans, and going off chasing after windmills that do not exist is very, well, Quixotic :-)

Cortez, I am using info on windmills old and new from wiki. I appreciate your first hand info may be more accurate. I have often thought about where my boy originated, and clearly am not basing the entire search on one random suggestion about a windmill. I too am sceptical about these things - in particular since clearly there are many charlatans doing this out here making a good deal of money from people's love of their animals. But can anyone really presume to know everything about the mental capacity of the human? We only use a tiny percentage of our brains capacity so who is to know what may be possible for a very few people? I don't think this very kind lady is among that number, it's true, but I also would not be so presumptuous as to say that I was certain communication was not possible.

I just looked at that wiki list of windmills- most haven't been used in well over 20 years. they are ruins without sails! and the modern wind turbine ones are too new. The other thing Id say is I have never known an Irish cob in Ireland be called Solomon, (that doesn't mean to say they aren't any, I expect this post be inundated with solomans now!!!) but they are usually called simpler names, like Micky, or Blue. And how would a horse even know his name or what his brothers name was when they don't understand human words? Im sorry, but I do think the 'horse-communicator' was leading you up the garden path......

I have somehow confused you re my boys brother. I knw his name was Solomon because they came together to the yard from where I bought him. This info did not come from the so called 'communication'. '

Just also to say, I was just posting ths thread to take a wild punt on something about my horse who is my best friend. I also have doubts about the process. The feeling I get from some of these replies is just criticism however which is not very relevant.

Jojo..my friend saw a psychic last year and got told all about her horse. She didn't mention having a horse so was a bit surprised when it was mentioned .
A lot of what she said did seem correct. She commented on the horse having two riders ( I ride him too) and how different we were in how we dealt with him and that he liked being sung to. I used to sing to him :)
Who really knows what horses know or how they think.. I do Masterson method and recently worked on a horse who made me so sad that I had tears in my eyes as I was touching him. That doesn't make sense either but I know what I felt.

Thanks for this TrasaM. Actually there were a couple of things that this lady said to me that were spot on ( I didn't know her before this visit), but of course if you have experience with horses you can tell a lot by just looking at the type. And sadly there was one major thing which she said that was totally inaccurate. So who knows?
