Iron parkland fencing - getting rid of the stuff!

My land is bordered with iron parkland fencing, which would be super if it wasn't a million years old and falling down. I have brand new stock fencing the other side of it and electric fencing on the inside of it to stop horses getting near it, so have lost a good few metres of field all the way around and it is time for it to go. Started taking it down this morning (what a mission!), but how do I get rid of the stuff? Do scrap men still exist? Will I have to pay fr it to be removed, or will they pay me for the metal? It is solid and there are hundreds of metres of it - ALOT of metal!
 
Where abouts in the country are you Zoon? I would like a few metres to finish my bit off if it is in good enough condition and nearby. Let me know!!
 
Hmm. Bit to far for me. Load it up in your trailer and take it to the scrappy to get weighed in. I think metal prices have gone down a bit from the high last year or so, but might be worth a few quid. It is quite a social eye opener at our local scrappy though!!
 
Really not sure if people will want it, there is quite a bit of rust, it'd need totally rubbing down and re painting. We just want it gone, so scrapman is probably the best idea
 
One man's trash is another mans treasure. Ebay is a good idea - remember the salvage man would pay you good money, then sell it retail for twice the price!
 
Are the uprights concreted in? if not I'd offer them to an architectural salvage place first. If they are concreted in an angle grinder may be your best option. You will need to clear a little soil from the base to cut below ground level and then recover with soil to make safe.
 
Scrap men still exist & they are in abundance. We just leave old washing machines etc at the end of the drive & they take them. Everything goes within 24 hours around here. You should see loads driving around in their pick ups. Have a word & I'm sure they'll take it, I doubt if they'll pay you though. ;)
 
I was going to suggest leaving it on the side of the road and wait for someone to steal it!
We did that with a caravan that was driven into a wheat field and left, so OH dragged it out with the tractor and it had gone by the next morning. Not the Council either!

OP, yes the metal fencing is worth something either from salvage or just for scrap. Be wary that you don't have to PAY someone to take it away, because they will try it on. Also be aware that if you take it to scrap yard they will need ID.
 
I must admit I took mine to the tip. Scrappers were going to charge to take away. However the tip people did say it wasn't domestic (but by that time lots was gone). So some tipped and some buried in our woods :eek::eek:
 
Check whoever takes it (if business) has a permit from the Environment Agency to do so, and a waste carriers licence if they come to collect. Can check this on ea website.
 
Definitely not scrap. Someone will shot blast it, paint it and sell it for a fortune.
I would ring a salvage yard and see how much they will give you or do a deal where they take it down
 
I think it would be a shame to scrap it anyway. That sort of thing goes down a bomb if you look at the salvage yard websites. Even if you were to advertise it yourself I bet you'd sell it ok.
