is £50 per week for diy a lot?

If they make their own hay then surely they still need to make money on it otherwise they are working for nothing. Yes do the cost at a bulk price but that is not going to be cheap this year. At £9 a month for haylage they are losing money it would cost that to wrap that amount of haylage!

I would expect to pay in the region of £20-£40 for DIY depending on the facilities and if it included and turning out etc. If you are paying anymore than this you are entering the part livery price bracket!! Unless it is an amazing yard that has out of this world facilities; 50 is alot for DIY

Yes seems to be a strange thing that because its home grown people think it should be cheaper - our haylage (large bale) cost £13 to make last year (fully contracted). We are not doing it this year as 80 bales cost £1,040 and our livery had 2ft 6" by 2ft wide banks of it (ad lib in her case meant gross wastage!)

This year dad will have done hours of work, bought a small baler and paid people to stack the stuff. Then you get horsey people moaning its £2.50 per bale!!

To be honest its getting to the point where we'd rather buy it in and sell stuff on eBay instead as its a lot less hassle and you make more money!

i pay £15 a week for two horses i have my own field 2 stables, a feed room and barn to myself plus someone living on site i don't have a school or anything like that but i can ride in one of his other fields when they aren't being used (my field is a hill)

i used to pay that for one horse and the yard was horrible (people wise

Dependent on facilities then I think that is ok. If you think about it I would think stable £25-£30, bale of bedding £5.50 and ad-lib hay/haylage at minimum of £10 so you are looking at around the £45 markreally - I would pay up to £50 if the facilities were fabulous - but then I'm on an 11 box yard with a 60x60 and a brandenew 50x30, walker, solarium and decet post and rail paddocks and we're paying £25 per week per stable plus bedding and haylage - I think we're quite spoilt!
