Is 13 stone too much for a cob with bad tendons?

I've been advertising for a sharer recently for my mare, as I will need some help during the weekdays when its winter. A lady has called me today interested in her, and my aunt knows her already and says she doesn't have a bad word to say about her although she may not be confident to canter her out on hacks. The only thing is that this lady probably weighs about 13 stone, not sure how tall she is.

My mare is a 15.1 and a lightweight cob, she also has bad DDFT tears in both front feet so I don't want to overburden them in any way. The cantering on hacks isn't an issue at the moment but Angel is desperate to have a canter to get it out of her system! I don't want to waste this girls time, but I really don't want to put anyone too heavy on her! I'm 8 stone though I know she is capable of carrying more. I also know I might have a hard time finding someone who only wants to lightly hack and school so can't be too choosy.

The weight issue is a tricky one - as many people have said before, you can have a 9 stone rider who rides like a sack of potatoes, and a 13 stone rider who rides very light - I know which one I'd prefer to put on my horse! I think it has to be down to you - dont go so much on what the scales say, but instead why dont you invite the lady to come and try her, and assess for yourself how good she looks on her? I think you will be able to judge if she rides heavy, or if your mare looks uncomfortable. Good luck!

Fuffy that is what I'm thinking too. Maybe I should have put a weight limit in the advert, but I didn't think to. None the less all the facts are in there plus a picture of her so its obvious she's not a weight carrier.

Miz Elz I think I will call her and maybe see how she rides, but ask her how much she weighs beforehand and just say the physio/vet has recommended a certain weight limit. I just don't want to hurt her feelings! Years ago when I worked out how much Angel could carry, I think it was around 13 stone. I'd be happy to put someone of this weight on her as a one off but maybe not as a regular rider.

If she really isn't confident enough to canter on hacks then it will probably be a no goer, having dealt with a sharer before with confidence issues it just isn't worth it. Angel picks up on bad habits so easily, and I need someone whos going to ride with a bit of oomph. I really wish finding the right person was easy!!
