I have 2 horses shoeless & have been for a number of years. I was getting concerned that I was being ripped off by my DAEP as I keep reading on various forums that trimmers are expensive so I did lots of research.
In the SE it can vary between £70 & £90 for a full set of keg shoes, £70 & £85 for a refit. £40 & £50 for 2 fronts & a hind trim, £35 & £45 for a refit.
I found a farrier supply websites to get prices on shoes & nails. A Pair of keg shoes £2.45 x 2 =£4.90 for a full set. Road nails work out 29p each , other nails 0.03p. Working on a regular shoeing with 2 road nails & 6 regular nails in each hoof = £3.04 in nails all round. So over all the cost of materials is £7.94
So on an average price (£80) If you take of the cost of materials (£7.94), time, travel costs, wear & tear on tools (£20 being generous) the price is the trim to receive a shoe immediately is £52.06. For a refit (£77 average) Take off £3.04 + £20.00 expenses only, £53.96 for the trim……£1.90 extra for the trim…?
I pay £40 per trim by someone who has trained in hoof anatomy, approachable, awareness of husbandry to help keep my horses sound & hooves healthy.
So after taking the time, travel costs, wear & tear on tools, Knowledge, I am actually left with a trimming bill of £20.00
I don’t feel ripped of by my DEAP after all & above all, the health & function of my horses feet are more important to me than tradition.

I'm confused what the price of kleg shoes have to do with this ? Sorry don't want to sound rude, I'm not following your post .

I'm not sure what a Kleg shoe is but a Keg shoe is a regular shoe rather than a remedial shoe. Toe clips on the front, quarter clips in the hinds type of thing.
The shoes are part of the costs (materials) involved in a farrier visit.

It only says kleg as I phones have a habit of making words up. Why compare the cost if a trim to the cost of a farrier putting on remedial shoes?

Lol, phones have a habit of doing that..!!
No, I'm comparing the cost of a regular farrier visit using regular (keg) shoes against the cost of a trim from a DAEP, Diploma Applied Equine Podiatry.
Both the farrier & DAEP hold diplomas is different skills. I only looked into the costings as I keep seeing people comment on how expensive "a trim" is..I did my research & the above is my findings.
Natural balance shoes are £3.39 a pair, they used to a more specialist shoe but I believe they are more commonly used now.

Well I used to pay £20 for a farrier trim , changed to a trimmer and I pay £30 each now :/ on the plus side he is showing/ teaching me how to do maintenance trims.

That's brilliant about your trimmer! 😀
I'm not really sure what the keg shoe is otherwise know as..."hunter shoe"..??

Many farriers only charge £20-30 for a trim, including travel etc.

Yes that's very true but farriers don't have training in shoeless trimming, some have taken interest & persued the shoeless trim.
Farriers are trained to trim a hoof for immediate reception of a shoe only.
I'm not anti but I wouldn't ask a doctor to look at my teeth kinda thing..!

I would rather ask a doctor to look at my teeth than ask a dentist to remove a wart!:)

Well I must be doing really well as the guy who now does my boy is a farrier and a barefoot trimmer and charges me £15 ;) Come to think of it the last farrier/trimmer charged the same .
